The Citizens' Ecological Coalition Movement has voted against the state budget, as was the unanimous decision of the Movement's political committee last Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

As noted in a statement, "the main reason for the decision to vote against is that the government's policies still do not sit well with us. And since the policies of the Anastasiades government are subsidized by the state budget then it is inevitable that we must vote against it.

The Anastasiades government has embarrassed us internationally, exposing us irreparably for the lack of structures to combat money laundering, the blatant tolerance (and promotion) of corruption and corruption, and in general by promoting the interests of the peons. And all this while a large portion of our population is struggling to make ends meet; a 35% of the population of Cyprus is on the verge of poverty, and a 46% is considered energy poor. Moreover, among other things, we stand firmly against the methodical plans for the destruction of the Akamas Peninsula through the interventions being launched in the area, the derogatory licensing of major development projects and road network construction at the expense of the environment, the non-implementation of the Sustainable Mobility Plans (SMPs) and the absence of an efficient public transport system. Year after year we observe in our country that the environment is being increasingly degraded and social structures are being broken down.

At the same time we see that the reforms lack substance, wasting the only opportunity for real change in our country, with the introduction of effective and digital governance. The reform bills are submitted unfinished and with many gaps and have been prepared without taking into account the views of civil society through public consultations.
The decision to vote against the budget certainly took into account the Ministry of Finance's failure to consult with all political parties, an intention that the government had initially made public and promised.

We hope that in the next budget the government will not ignore the Ecologist Movement and take into account our above concerns before the final submission to Parliament."
