"An exercise in propaganda that is far from serious" is what the Turkish Cypriot leader's adviser, Osman Ertoğ, called the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) which, according to reports, President Anastasiades is preparing to propose in a letter to Ersin Tatar and revolve around the axis of surrender of the enclosed city of Varosha, in exchange for the "airport" in Tymbou coming under UN control.
According to the Press and Information Office, Ertuğ claimed that with this "so-called proposal", in his words, the Greek Cypriot side is demanding the "airport" and Famagusta port through the UN and Varosha through the EU.
He claimed that there is absolutely no guarantee that the "airport" at Tympou and the Famagusta port will not be closed again tomorrow, which he said should not be overlooked.
Noting that it is not possible to take seriously "completely artificial approaches that attempt to create impressions", Ertuğ said that however much President Anastasiades and Foreign Minister Kasoulides insist, this proposal "is an exercise in propaganda that is far from serious".
He said that this issue is not new and that what are now called MOUs were first put on the agenda in 1981 as part of an approach known as "Good Will Measures" and added that he himself does not remember how many times they were put on the table either.
He even claimed that it is the Greek Cypriot side that has always rejected the "Tympos versus Varosha" proposal.
