Announcement by the Ministry of Education on the Secondary Education Retention Test

In relation to public statements on the development of epidemiological data in the student population in connection with the implementation of the directive on the continuation of education for those who have negative results in diagnostic tests, the Ministry of Education announces the following:

    1. The number of cases among pupils, as indicated by the positivity rate, has not been affected by the implementation of the measure. Contrary to the claim that has been made, the positivity rate was 0.76% on the day before the measure was implemented and then over 11 days of implementation of the measure it fluctuated between 0.55% and 0.88%, with most days being lower than the initial rate. That is, the numbers show that the claim of "chains in schools" is not valid.
    2. Note that the average positivity rate of 1.3% of the contact students who chose the test for staying in school compares to more than double the overall positivity rate in the community.
    3. Regarding the claim that some contact students may be a few hours late in arriving to be screened in the morning before classes begin, any loss of instructional time for these particular students should be compared to their complete absence for seven days.
    4. The instruction given by the Ministry of Health that this category of students who are contacts and will be able to attend classes cannot use the bus is valid and should be enforced.

Attached are detailed results on the implementation of the measure.
