Special targeted campaign of inspections of construction sites conducted by the Labour Inspection Department Informs with a relevant announcement

Special targeted campaign of inspections of construction sites conducted during the months of March, In March, July, August and September 2022, the Labour Inspection Department (LID) of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance will carry out a special campaign of site inspections in March, July, August and September 2022 to check the compliance of the project stakeholders involved (e.g.e.g. project owners, designers/supervisors, contractors, subcontractors) with the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Legislation.

In a statement the Labour Inspection Department states that the construction sector is a high-risk sector, with a high Accident Frequency Index and the highest Accident Severity Index and adds that "in recent years there has been an increase in activity in this sector, which, despite showing a decrease in the Accident Frequency Index, has the highest Accident Severity Index compared to other sectors of economic activity".

According to the Department of Labour Inspection, "the campaign was designed taking into account the violations detected during inspections of construction sites, as well as the causes of accidents, occupational diseases and dangerous incidents that have occurred in recent years during the execution of work on construction sites".

"The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among all those involved in construction projects and to implement preventive and protective measures to reduce accidents, occupational diseases and dangerous incidents related to activities in this sector," it underlines.

Finally, the Labour Inspectorate says that detailed information material on this campaign as well as leaflets on the main provisions of the legislation in the construction sector are available on the Department's website.
