The Cyprus Bar Association (PBA) welcomes the passage last Thursday, February 17, by the House of Representatives of the bill on the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Authority.[/P]

With the contribution of the IDA, according to a statement, the objective of turning the Authority into a substantive authority with the right to take statements and the right to investigate corruption cases was achieved, while the IDA's recommendation for the advisory council was also adopted.

The passage, it adds, is certainly a positive first step in restoring public credibility towards the Institutions. "Much still needs to be done and the IDA will continue to work in this direction," the statement concludes."
