Record-breaking cases of coronavirus in Greece, with the Omicron mutation becoming dominant and new measures being put in place in an attempt to limit the spread.
New Year's Day has gone on mute, food and entertainment outlets will close at 2:00. Also, according to the Joint Ministerial Decision made public, very strict fines have been imposed for organising parties and other events in private places.
New measures: What the Joint Administrative Order provides for parties
Specifically, the following are prohibited:
- the holding of public entertainment festivities,
- the holding of any form of public entertainment gatherings and events in a private non-professional space leased or assigned for that purpose,
- the holding of any form of entertainment gatherings and events in private premises for consideration or where they involve the hiring of musical entertainment equipment or services.
The fines
According to the Joint Ministerial Decision, for "holding any form of entertainment gatherings and events in a private non-professional premises leased or provided for this purpose, as well as the holding of any form of entertainment gatherings and events in a private place for consideration or if they involve the hiring of musical entertainment equipment or services" is subject to an administrative fine of fifty thousand (50.000) to the lessee or concessionaire of the private, non-commercial space in which the event is held or takes place.
The above fine applies to the 1st infringement, while for the 2nd infringement the fine is increased to 200,000 euros to the lessee or concessionaire of the private, non-commercial space in which the event is held or takes place.
New measures: What applies from today
New anti-coronavirus measures came into force from 6:00am on 30 December, against the backdrop of the horrific spread of the Omicron mutation.
Significant changes and stricter measures for cafes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs as they will now operate without music. In terms of entertainment and dining will be open until 12pm, seated only, at tables of six, no standing and no music. The exception is New Year's Eve when shops will be open until two in the morning but with the same restrictions.
Reveille until 2am with no music
A summary of the new measures:
- Entertainment to run until 00, exclusively inoculated, no standing room only and up to 6 people at each table. Note that music is also prohibited. On New Year's Eve only, shops will be open until 2am but with all applicable prohibitions.
- With regard to the stadiums, the occupancy rate is to be reduced to 10% with a maximum of 1,000 people. If these measures are not complied with, all matches will be played behind closed doors.
- In elderly care facilities only PCR visits and the same in hospitals.
- Increase of teleworking to 50%.
- Teleworking in the private and public sector up to 50% and rolling hours which will be based on the capacity of each service.
- Mandatory use of FFP2/KN95 mask or double mask in supermarkets and public transport as well as for catering workers.
- Recommendation for double mask or high protection where there is confusion.
