Blinken-Cassoulides meeting US commitment to further deepen cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus

US commitment to deepen cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus was expressed by Anthony Blinken during his meeting with Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides in Washington. According to a statement from the State Department, "Secretary of State Blinken congratulated Foreign Minister Kasoulides on his return to the State Department and reiterated the U.S. commitment to deepening cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus, including through the 3+1 mechanism with Greece and Israel."


As noted in the statement, the two ministers discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, including the importance of coordinating actions in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. In addition, they stressed the importance of strengthening scientific cooperation on issues such as climate change and emerging technologies through the upcoming signing of a bilateral science and technology agreement.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, Anthony Blinken expressed the United States' continued support for UN-led efforts[/B] to reunify the island on the basis of a bizonal bicommunal federation with political equality for the benefit of all Cypriots.

The U.S. delegation included Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Dr. Karen Donfried, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Harry Kamian and Assistant Secretary of State for Southern European and Caucasus Affairs Erika Olson.
