The exploitation of African migrants by traffickers in Turkey was mentioned by the President at the EU summit
In a roundtable with European and African leaders on migration and mobility, President Anastasiades participated on Friday morning in the framework of the European Union-African Union Summit, which started on Thursday and ends today.
According to a post by the President on his personal Twitter account, he stressed that the EU "should be able to provide assistance where it is most needed and contribute to capacity building in Africa, with a view to strengthening effective border management and the ability to fight traffickers."
"In 2021, the majority of asylum seekers in Cyprus crossed into the government-controlled areas through the occupied territories, having arrived from Turkey," the post adds."
"This is an example of Africans being exploited by traffickers, who are left to act freely by the Turkish authorities," it stresses."
