The EPP enters a new round of consultations with parties for the presidential elections The EPP maintains open doors to the existing options

In a new round of meetings with parties, in the context of consultations ahead of the presidential elections of 2023, the EPP enters this week and next week, keeping open doors to the existing options, the party's President, Marinos Sizopoulos, said in a statement today.

Speaking after the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial of Vassos Lyssarides at the Constantine and Helen Cemetery in Nicosia, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the death of the historic leader of the EPP, Mr. Sizopoulos responded to questions regarding the party's stance amidst the ferment for the upcoming presidential elections.

According to him, the electoral scene is still fluid, with the EDEK going into a new round of meetings to explore the possibility of cooperation or coalition. "We will launch this week and possibly next week meetings with parties that we consider to be in a closer position as far as the EPP is concerned, on Cyprus issues, but also on social and economic policy issues," Sizopoulos said, noting that his party's stance will depend on the final decisions taken by the other parties, as well as on the formation of the political scene.

"The EDEK has publicly stated our positions and intentions", he explained, adding that "our stance depends not only on us, but also on the other party forces, depending on what their actions and decisions will be", clarifying that the EDEK will make its own decisions "with full transparency and in a democratic way".

Responding to a question on whether the EDEK maintains open doors to the options available so far, he replied that from the actions and public statements of the party so far, this is obvious.

Referring to the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial of Vassos Lyssarides, Mr. Sizopoulos said that through this, the party's cadres and leadership assured that they will continue the same struggle "without deviations and aberrations, until the freedom of our country, until the vindication of our people, for democracy and socialism".

He also mentioned that, although Vassos Lyssarides has completed a year of biological absence, "nevertheless, his path as a politician, as a poet, as a painter, as a doctor, remains a constant landmark in the course that the EPP follows and will continue to follow, regarding the resolution of the Cyprus problem, the liberation of our country from Turkish occupation and the creation of a rule of law for the benefit of our citizens".
