The House Health Committee will support the work of the Karaiskakio Foundation "We want to say how very proud we are as a country of the work of Karaiskakio and how much we congratulate them for the excellent work they are doing," says Savia Orphanidou
The Parliamentary Health Committee will support the work of the Karaiskakio Foundation in any way it can, such as in matters of institutionalizing procedures and legislation in order to strengthen the already excellent work being produced, said the Chairwoman of the Committee, MP for DISY, Savya Orphanidou.
She said that the Health Committee, which visited Karaiskakeio today, had the opportunity to see up close and be informed about the multi-level but also great and wonderful work carried out, especially in the field of bone marrow for donors but also in the field of haematological oncology and childhood cancer.
"We want to say how very proud we are as a country of the work of Karaiskakio and how much we congratulate them for the excellent work they are doing," Orphanidou said.
She noted that we are one of the first countries in terms of population ratio in the archive for volunteer bone marrow donors, numbering around 217 thousand volunteers, which archive is part of a huge global bank of around 37 million volunteers.
"This year they are celebrating 25 years of service with many actions and sensitivities and their goal, as they have informed us, is to upgrade, to improve the quality of service, especially to children since they are also a pediatric oncology center, excellence even, one of the best in the world and they put special emphasis on pediatric cancer with the aim to serve children as much as they can in the best possible way," he added.
We were also informed, Orphanidou continued, that they have so far given more than 650 transplants in 33 countries in five continents.
She said that all this service is provided free of charge by a staff that is specially trained and whose goal is to provide the services in the best possible way.</B-10
