The case of the disappearance of 20-year-old Nektaria from Paros has taken a new turn in the last 24 hours. The authorities became alarmed, initially, a week ago, when the parents of the young woman reported her disappearance to the Naoussa police station. Shortly afterwards, however, a twist emerged, as according to the report, Nektaria left the house of her own free will, after she reported that she had been a victim of sexual abuse by her own stepfather when she was still a minor. She then took a ferry to Athens to stay at a relative's house in Kaminia.
When she realised she was wanted, she turned up at the Paros security station, telling police officers that she was in good health.
The 20-year-old's lawyer had spoken to Alpha's "Tlive" show, stating the following: "albeit very belatedly, mouths have been opened. I have received phone calls and messages confirming Nektaria's allegations. The gentleman does not have a good name in the area, some even fear him. Since she was 14 she has been sexually abused, beaten and psychologically abused."
"There is constitution and coherence in her speech. I have no doubt about what she says. And residents of the island call me and tell me about an incident two years ago of a beating. The girl had also suffered a nervous breakdown. Lies that her mother doesn't know. Nektaria wanted to file a complaint since she was 14 and the mother stopped her," the 20-year-old's lawyer added.
The statement from the Smile of the Child and the calls confirming the information
"Another case, another child who continues in adult life to suffer because of the indifference to find a solution in time. The life of the 20-year-old girl, now 20 years old, continued to be destroyed until her adulthood, being systematically exploited, deprived of the opportunity that every child, every human being has in life, care and well-being," "Smile of the Child" noted.
Then, "Smile of the Child" notes that the adult did not disappear but, as she said, she left her home of her own free will due to sexual abuse she had been receiving from her stepfather since 2016, that is, since the age of 15. The adult has left for the same reason twice more in the past and has filed a complaint against her stepfather.
For this case at the "National Line for Missing Adults 1017" "The Smile of the Child" received calls confirming information about the abuse the adult had been receiving since the age of 15 from a relative.
Subsequently, "The Smile of the Child" contacted the Service Officer of the Police Department of the adult's place of origin, who confirmed the girl's repeated escapes, as well as the fact that the family in question is being monitored by Social Services, and the girl herself by a Psychologist. In this communication the Agency indicated that the adult may be in potential danger, stating its availability to assist in finding her. Moreover, it indicated that in case she is found, "The Smile of the Child" is prepared to support her holistically in whatever she needs.
Finally, for the family in question, "The Smile of the Child" received and forwarded to the competent prosecutor's office two reports, in 2013 and 2016. These reports concerned physical abuse of the children by the stepfather and the mother, as well as possible sexual exploitation of the minor girls by third parties with the knowledge of the mother.
