The Cyprus Bar Association, inaugurating the "Legal Literacy" program, participated on Saturday in the sixth series of presentations of the Ministry of Education's online course on the subject: "The Profession of Lawyer and the Concepts of Justice, Courts and the Rule of Law."

An announcement of the IDA stated that the presentation was made by the Press Spokesperson Georgia Constantinou - Panagiotou and was attended by students of the sixth grade of primary school.

She explained concepts such as the state, law, the rule of law, justice, the courts, the common sense of justice, the profession of lawyer and judge, aiming at the understanding and familiarization of students with them.

During the presentation, which was interactive in nature, students had the opportunity to identify components of democracy and justice and to express their views on what is just and unjust, understanding that justice is a key pillar in a democratic society.

The "Legal Literacy" programme is addressed to primary and secondary school students and its philosophy is based on the understanding of legal concepts that govern our everyday life both on a private and collective level.

By implementing the "Legal Literacy" initiative, the IDA is making an active contribution to ensure that a culture of legally literate citizens, at the level of basic knowledge, is built and enriched from the earliest years of human life, the statement said.
