The challenges and problems of professional cooks were put before the Speaker of the Parliament Anita Demetriou's meeting with representatives of the Cyprus Association of Chefs (CAC)

The challenges and problems faced by the sector of professional cooks were put before the Speaker of the Parliament in a meeting on Wednesday, Anita Demetriou with representatives of the Cyprus Chefs Association (CAC).

According to a statement by the Parliament, during the meeting, "the work and actions of the CAC were presented and the challenges and problems faced by the sector of professional cooks and the food industry in general were discussed."

The representatives of the Association informed the President of the Parliament about the major issues of concern to the Association, which include the creation of a Culinary Academy/School, the registration of the profession of cook and confectioner, the strengthening of the education/training programme for professionals in the sector, as well as the upgrading of the quality of services provided by the food industry.

For her part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives "acknowledged the role that the CAC has to play in upgrading the sector of professional cooks and noted the need to implement the aforementioned objectives."

Ms Demetriou also said "that the House of Representatives will proceed to the conclusion of a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Cyprus Association of Chefs to formulate a specific framework for cooperation between the two parties."

Finally, he assured the representatives of the Association that "within the framework of its own competences, it will take every possible initiative to solve the problems of the Association, contributing to the efforts of the Association to promote Cypriot gastronomy".
