The third favourite photographer of national star Aliki Vougiouklaki has passed away, after a serious adventure with his health. Vassilis Kyriazis along with Cleisthenes and Marinos Kousoumidis were the triumvirate of photographers that the great actress trusted more than anyone else.

For his sake the national star was not a few times that she dared to pose without eyelashes and without a trace of make-up.

Apart from being a close collaborator of the big star, Vassilis Kyriazis was also one of the most famous photographers of the 80s, with all the big names of the time, because of his collaboration with the magazine "Katerina", having posed in front of him.

In an even rare interview, the photographer had revealed many of the moments of Alice Vougiouklaki, whom he visited almost daily as she was also one of the people who answered the thousands of letters she received daily from her fans.

"Aliki had no problem appearing without make-up. As unbelievable as this may seem, since we have otherwise gotten used to her or molded her in our minds. She had incredible confidence in her facial features," said Vassilis Kyriazis who has photographed Aliki Vougiouklaki even in the kitchen of her house.

The surprise

"It was her birthday, I remember, and we had prepared a little surprise for her when she woke up. She got up as she was, put on something simple and sporty, shook out her golden hair and came into the kitchen unpainted. She may have been just as she had woken up, but she was just as beautiful as in her movies or her great plays. Normally, one would think that a woman like Alice would never wish to be seen without her false eyelashes, and yet she had no issue, as she was congenitally beautiful. I met her in the mid-'70s, when she, as a big star, was constantly glowing with the gold dust left on her by her hitherto golden career."

In the truly rare archive of the photographer, who for more than twenty years was the most important photojournalist for the magazine "Katerina", Aliki Vougiouklaki occupies the largest part, since the two maintained excellent friendly relations, with him having photographed her in many of her personal and professional moments.

The rehearsals

"It was in the winter of 1982 - 1983, when Aliki was preparing to stage the play "The Lady with the Camellias", the script of which was an adaptation of Alexandros Dumas' play "La Dame Aux Camellias", which was published simultaneously as a novel and a play. She had invited me to the first rehearsals, while George Kimoulis, Panos Michalopoulos, Smaro Stephanidou and other great actors were with her. Aliki, without any anxiety, appeared in front of us and it was really like watching a little girl. Although she was a little over 45 years old, that year she looked like a proper bud. Uncomplicated as she was and without any stress, she posed all giddy with her colleagues without a trace of makeup. In the photo next to the then young George Kimoulis, one can easily see her velvety skin, her gorgeous lips, as well as her bright eyes, which even without make-up are captivating".

The letters and the rare archive

The well-known photographer Vassilis Kyriazis had revealed that for several years he was also the person who answered Alice Vougiouklaki's letters, even having his own office in her beautiful apartment on Stisichorou Street, where the national star lived.

"I can remember truly unforgettable moments next to this rare man, loved and loved by all of Greece. She had proposed to me around 1978 to work with her and answer for her in the thousands of letters she received, sending an autograph with a few words of love and her signature. It was overwhelming the way people loved her. They adored her and truly saw her as the person who could express their admiration, their love, their complaint, their sorrow. Alice kept everything from gifts her admirers had given her to letters and cards she received. All of this was in boxes, which she didn't want to mess up in any way," says Vassilis Kyriazis. In fact, he - among other things - has in his important archive a series of photos taken of the unforgettable star in her home. "At some point when we were sitting there and we had nothing else to do I suggested that I take a picture of her, she liked the idea and we started. The shoot took place in her living room and also in her stunning black dining room. With no professional makeup and wearing a pleated purple outfit with a nice neckline, Alice sat comfortably and gave me her brightest smile. Poses full of nuzzle, but also more serious than a star who knew how to pose and show off her beautiful features."
