Archdiocese of Cyprus clarifies on the arrival of icons of Archangel Michael and Judas Thaddaeus for veneration

The Archdiocese of Cyprus responds to reports, which refer to the transfer to Cyprus, from a holy pilgrimage of the Holy Metropolis of Messogaia and Lavreotiki in Greece, of icons of Archangel Michael and Judas Thaddaeus for veneration by the faithful.

"The Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus announces that His Grace the Archbishop of Cyprus, Mr. Chrysostomos II, has never requested or approved or desires the said move, nor is he aware of anything relevant," the statement said.

Adding that the Church of Cyprus is not represented by any layman who makes his own personal announcements.

"The Church of Cyprus is represented by His Beatitude Archbishop of Cyprus Mr. Chrysostomos II and the Holy Synod. In no case was an official announcement made on behalf of the Church of Cyprus regarding the arrival of the specific holy icons," it says.

In conclusion, it is noted that "His Beatitude has over time dealt strictly with similar situations of exploitation of the piety of our faithful by the arrival of icons and relics".
