The Anastasiades government is not to blame for the situation of the rural world, says G. Gavriel The highlights of his intervention in Parliament
The responsibilities of the Anastasiades government for the situation in which the rural world has found itself are insurmountable, said AKEL MP Yiannakis Gavriel, speaking on Wednesday before the plenary session of the Parliament during the debate on the state budget for 2023, who stressed that horizontal support measures are needed to address the unbearable production costs, which have brought the agricultural world to its knees, rather than half-measures and piecemeal solutions.
As he said, the Anastasiades government "not only refuses to support and protect the rural world from the tide of inexactness, but with its conscious choices, it pushes the small and medium-sized farmer to the precipice for the benefit of a handful of oligopolies, which during the days of this government live, reign and multiply."
According to Yiannakis Gavriel, "what can safely be said about the proposed budget is that it was prepared and submitted as if absolutely nothing is happening in the economy and society," noting that the proposed budget "ignores the dramatic situation, The proposed budget ignores the dramatic situation in which farmers have found themselves and the fact that they are on the brink of ruin, ignores the unsustainable increases in production costs and does not include anything new in terms of support for the farming community.
