The President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades, chaired a meeting on Akamas today at the Presidential Palace. The meeting highlighted the significant progress made in addressing the problems of Akamas, without disregarding the particularities of the communities of the region.

The President stressed that the Akamas issue must be resolved noting that it has been pending for more than 30 years

The Government's goal, as mentioned in the meeting, is for the Akamas Local Plan to be announced in March of 2022.

The Akamas Local Plan will be designed according to the European Commission guidelines for protection of the natural environment, but at the same time will offer within the same framework multiple benefits to the communities of the region which are an integral part of the Akamas peninsula.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Interior and Agriculture, the Directors of the Departments of Cadastre, Town Planning, Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, the President of the Planning Council and officials.
