Statements shed light on the "thriller of Patras" with the three dead children What doctors and nurses from the Children's Hospital say The investigation of the Hellenic Police is in a critical final phase. Revealing reports on the causes of death of Georgina and her two brothers
In its main phase, with statements from doctors and nurses from the Children's Hospital "Aglaia Kyriakou", where nine-year-old Georgina died on January 22, 2021, and those of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, where she underwent examinations and a defibrillator was placed in the unfortunate girl, has now entered the investigation of the police of the Department of Crimes against Life of the Security Department of Attica, who are investigating the circumstances death of the three girls of the same family from Patras.
In the next 24 hours the statements of at least 15 health officials from two hospitals in Patras where Georgina had been treated before she breathed her last in Athens are expected. Officials of the authorities speak of an investigation that has taken a specific direction and of "extremely informative testimonies", stressing at the same time that "careful steps are being taken that will lead to the full clarification of the case".
Calls
The focus in the next - and potentially most crucial stage of the investigation - is, moreover, expected to be on critical persons who may come forward with revealing reports on the causes of death of Georgina and her two brothers. Indeed, it is considered particularly likely that the Hellenic Police will draw evidence of telephone calls at times critical to the girl's health.
The main objective of the above is to determine why she suffered two cardiac arrests (one fatal) and other inexplicable, unclear health problems only when she was hospitalized in a single room, with the same always familiar persons at her side. Perhaps, the answer to the above question, they believe, will also provide answers to why when they were taken to the ICU or underwent exhaustive examinations, no problems arose. Doctors and nurses as a whole, moreover, rule out cases of other illnesses, and talk of being called late when the girl presented a dangerous deterioration in the ward where she was being treated.
Examinations
Meanwhile, the case file being formed will include the hospitalization files of Georgina in four hospitals, in Athens and Patras, as well as the files of the deaths of three-and-a-half-year-old Malena, on 13 April 2019 at the Oncology Hospital "Elpis", and seven-month-old Iris, on 21 March 2021 at the family home, for which a number of questions are also raised.
In particular, Malena's death was attributed - based on the forensic examination - to liver failure, without, however, establishing from another examination what could have caused it, while it is not explained why there was not any relevant finding in the hepatological tests that had preceded a few hours before the girl's death. According to forensic experts, liver failure (i.e. if a correct diagnosis is eventually proven) may also be due to the ingestion of a toxic substance, which, however, was not detected in the toxicological examination.p.p. it was the first death and nothing else was suspected, except for an undetectable disease), only whether the little girl had taken... alcohol, or drugs, and not other toxic substances, was examined. At the same time, it will be examined why, while the parents were making praising comments immediately after Malena's death about the doctors and nurses of "Elpis", at a later time they made accusations of poor assessment of the situation, delayed resuscitation, late reactions.
Contradictions
A review of the file of seven-month-old Iris will be imminent. The dead infant was found in his crib by his aunt (his mother's sister) who, she testified, was staying at home at the time because her sister was separated from her husband and father of the children, who had abandoned him a few hours earlier. However, in the relative's testimony and in her recent statements there are different accounts of when the dead girl was found, the time when her mother last approached her, when the father was called to return home, when the ambulance was notified and who first tried to revive her.
Similarly, there will be a new investigation into the causes of Iris's death, as the opinion that she suffered from sinus node agenesis, i.e. that she was born without the natural "pacemaker" of the heart, is disputed. This is because cardiac surgeons and forensic experts say that it is an extremely rare to 'non-existent' finding, as only three or four cases have been recorded in the last 50 years throughout the world.
