[/QUOTE]"The Test to Stay endangers teachers and students" say the Ecologists Statement by Mrs.Efis Xanthou, Deputy President of the Movement
The statement of Mrs. Efi Xanthou, Deputy President of the Movement.
Already the opening of schools for two weeks has been accompanied by many serious problems due to an upsurge in cases of coronavirus, as most schools are understaffed due to the absence of kindergarten teachers, teachers and teachers, as well as students.
As the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Co-operation we believe that the new implementation of the "Test to Stay" will create further problems, since pupils who are close contacts will remain in school and will be quarantined in the afternoon.
The new measure is an experiment and clearly puts not only teachers but also the general public at risk, since chains of cases will emerge from school units. For the umpteenth time during this unprecedented pandemic, we see the government bowing to pressure from employers who do not want their employees to stay home to watch their children when they are close contacts of outbreaks. The Ministers of Education and Health treat schools as mere places to keep children.
They would rather have more risk of contamination in the community than take the same protective measures imposed on all other residents and visitors to the island.
Applying different measures to schools, without taking appropriate steps to protect teachers and students, can only be seen as an experiment by the government to create herd immunity. It simply does not admit it publicly.
