Announcements on new additional measures expected - Test to Stay for schools on the Cabinet table What it involves and how it will work What the aim of the measure is All information

The Cabinet will announce new decisions shortly in an attempt to tackle the transmission of Omicron in the community.

As reported in a previous Cyprus Times[/URL] article, great importance was placed on yesterday's meeting between Hatzipandela and epidemiologists, on schools and students with the Minister presenting today before the Cabinet the recommendation for the introduction of the Test to Stay in schools.

According to information in the Cyprus Times, this new measure being "locked in" by the Cabinet involves conducting a rapid test on close contacts, who will undergo a daily test for a period of 5 days, continuing their normal presence in schools.

More specifically, if a student is reported as a close contact of a confirmed case then they will be able to continue their normal physical presence at school, provided that they daily-for 5 days-submit to a rapid test with a negative reading.

In the event that the rapid test shows a positive result (on any of these 5 days) then the student will be considered a case and will follow all procedures, including self-limitation.

The aim of the above measure, as mentioned, is to address the large number of students who remain at home as close contacts resulting in days away from school.
