As reported in the occupied territories, a statement from the "presidency" said that the two leaders expressed the wish that all goes well after the earthquake, in which fortunately there were no human casualties or property damage.

During the telephone conversation, Anastasiades and Talat referred to the 1953 earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, saying it was one of the most devastating earthquakes in the history of the island.

They also said it was comforting that there was no loss of life or material damage and exchanged wishes for the New Year.
