Tatar spoke to an OIS delegation about the "isolation" of the TCs.The "unjust isolation" is contrary to human rights, said the T/C leader
The "unjust isolation" imposed on the Turkish Cypriot "people" was addressed by the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, to a delegation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee on Human Rights.
According to WFP, the meeting took place in the occupied territories and Tatar said that "unjust isolation" was against human rights.
Expressing satisfaction with the committee's visit to the occupied territories and noting that it is extremely important for its members to see the "realities" on the island, Ersin Tatar reiterated the position that Turkish Cypriots are at least as sovereign as Greek Cypriots because with their acquired historical rights they are one of the two co-owners of the island.
The "isolation", he added, prevents Turkish Cypriots from expressing their positions internationally and the restrictions negatively affect all areas. "Our expectation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is to stand by the Turkish Cypriots who are suffering great injustice."
Tatar reiterated the position that the EU did not keep the promises it made to the Turkish Cypriots on issues such as direct trade, despite the fact that they voted "yes" to the Annan Plan and unilaterally included the Greek Cypriots, who rejected that plan, in its ranks. "With the accession of the Greek Cypriot side to the EU, the Cyprus problem was complicated," he claimed.
The chairman of the Standing Committee on Human Rights of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Dr, Haji Ali Achikgul said they visit many countries where there are human rights violations and that the committee works on human rights issues faced by people.
