The Turkish Cypriot leader presented his new political vision for a solution on the basis of two sovereign equal states in Cyprus to Nobel laureate in chemistry Turkish scientist Dr. Aziz Sanjiar during a teleconference they had this morning.

According to the GMP, Tatar also thanked the organizer of the teleconference, Dr. Nedime Serakinji, a "health adviser" to the "presidency", whom Sanjiar describes as his "spiritual daughter".

Referring to the Cyprus issue, the T/C leader repeated the claim that, despite the flexibility shown by the Turkish Cypriot side, the talks to reach a federation solution were not successful due to the "unacceptable proposals" of the Greek Cypriot side. He also claimed that the Greek Cypriot mentality has not changed and continues to act in order to turn the island into a Greek island.

Claiming that there are two separate peoples in Cyprus, he said that the Turkish Cypriot side will never accept a partnership that the "Greek Cypriot-Greek twin" is trying to turn in its favour. Tatar also referred to the importance of protecting what he called "their law and rights" in the airspace and the "Blue Homeland" for Turkey's security and for the Turkish Cypriot "people" to be able to live in safety.

He also reiterated the position that a just, permanent and viable agreement could only be achieved through the cooperation of two separate states living side by side on the basis of sovereign equality in Cyprus.

In his own intervention, Dr. Aziz Sanjiar argued that the Greek Cypriot side does not and will not accept the Turkish Cypriots as its equals and said that there is a need to pass on to the new generations the struggle carried out by Dr. Fazil Kiouchiuk and Raouf Denktash.
