Tatar comments on Lavrov's statements

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, referring to the statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said in relation to the pseudo-state that "the TRNC is a reality and will continue to exist", noting that "the way to a solution that will benefit Cyprus and the region is through our proposal based on the existence of two separate sovereign states".

In a written statement in relation to Lavrov's statements, Tatar said in relation to the Government of the Republic of Cyprus that "the Greek Cypriot administration is trying to hide the facts in Cyprus and deceive the world public opinion, as they always do, while announcing that they will take diplomatic initiatives towards Russia".

"The leaders of the Turkish Cypriot people, who are the equal founding partners of the Republic of Cyprus, have had the right to participate in the dialogue, development and negotiations on the Cyprus problem since those years, such as the Zurich and London talks in 1959," he adds, which according to him is an indisputable fact, while referring to the presence of Rauf Denktash at the UN Security Council meetings in 1964.

He also adds that later, the "administrations" and the representatives of the Turkish Cypriot "people", in his words, participated in all the dialogues that came on the agenda on the Cyprus problem, stating that the representatives of the Turkish Cypriot "people" participated in all the negotiation processes that started in 1968 and continue to this day.

"All these are indisputable facts and it is an inalienable right of the Turkish Cypriots, who established their own sovereign state, to participate in all kinds of dialogue and negotiation processes. Mr. Lavrov also drew attention to this fact in his statement."

He goes on to claim that "the reactions and efforts of the Greek Cypriot administration, which could not digest Lavrov's use of the term 'TRNC' have no relevance, value or validity. The Republic of Cyprus, which was turned into a Greek Cypriot state by force of arms, cannot represent the Turkish Cypriot people," he added.

Finally, Tatar expressed the hope that the problems between Russia and Ukraine will be resolved through dialogue and not through arms and war.
