The important issue of tackling juvenile delinquency was discussed at length at an inter-ministerial meeting between the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Stephens Drakos, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Minister Prodromos Prodromos, with the participation of the Commissioner for Child Protection Desposo Michaelidou and the Chief of Police Stelios Papatheodorou.
A statement from the Ministry of Justice said that during the discussion, the two ministers "stressed the fact that juvenile delinquency is awidespread social problem, which also occurs in schools".
Also, "through the fruitful exchange of views there were useful suggestions, so that an appropriate structure could be created with the participation of the services involved in order to act immediately".
An important suggestion made at the dialogue table was the introduction of the institution of the ombudsman, which will be examined in the future, while there was also a suggestion that training for parents/guardians should be carried out to prevent the phenomenon".
As decided at the inter-ministerial meeting, "the whole issue will be handled by a working group involving the concerned State agencies for further study of the suggestions made."
For her part, the Minister of Justice "thanked those present for the constructive discussion and especially the Commissioner for Child Protection, noting that a second meeting will follow to study the progress report by the working group so that further decisions can be taken," the statement concludes.
