Experts' thoughts for Wednesday when they will meet with the Minister of Health - Quarantine reduction and separation of risk areas are gaining momentum - Positive signs in the epidemiological picture in recent days

The results of the daily recording of coronavirus cases by the Ministry of Health are optimistic, with epidemiologists recommending new relaxations that will slowly bring us closer to normality.

According to the Cyprus Times, next Wednesday afternoon the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee are expected to meet with the Minister of Health to recommend the next relaxations, which Michael Hadjipandela will forward to the Cabinet on Thursday.

Segregation according to risk...

According to reports, processes are already underway to segregate premises into three categories on the basis of their risk.

Low risk premises:

  • Supermarkets, bakeries, retail, pharmacies, etc.

Medium risk premises:

  • Catering centres, cafes etc.

High risk areas:

  • Entertainment centres, weddings, christenings etc.

With this separation, the recommendations are to completely remove the safepass from low risk areas. That is, the experts recommend that the safepass be removed from places of first necessity, supermarkets, bakeries and pharmacies.

At the same time, in high-risk areas, the presentation of a safepass is taken for granted, while, as we were told, there will be a discussion again about the compulsory presentation of a negative test in music and dance centres, both for vaccinated and unvaccinated persons.

The reactions of triple-vaccinated citizens appear to be troubling epidemiologists, with some of them suggesting the removal of the measure for the triple vaccinated.

Some of the experts consider the measure strict for people who have been vaccinated with all 3 doses, so they will recommend that the measure be reconsidered.

Quarantine reduction to be discussed again...

The view that it is time to reduce quarantine for citizens suffering from covid was expressed by Dr. Asked whether the reduction of quarantine will be put on the table again, he said that he will go to Thursday's meeting with a proposal to reduce the mandatory quarantine to 7 days, as he believes that the time has come, seeing the epidemiological data and the moves of other countries on this issue.

Asked whether the reduction of quarantine will be put on the table again, he said that he will go to Thursday's meeting with a proposal to reduce the mandatory quarantine to 7 days, as he believes that the time has come seeing the epidemiological data and the moves of other countries on this issue.

It will be recalled that some of the experts have been suggesting for some weeks that quarantine should be reduced, with some even considering that it could be "reduced" to 5 days.

However, the meeting is again expected to discuss the revision of protocols in various areas, as many measures have been in place for some time without any modification. Finally, there are some thoughts about extending the test to stay to other services, but some of the experts do not think it is a first necessity to extend this measure.

Any decisions taken are expected to be put before the Cabinet which has the final say.
