[CYPRUS TIMES] Sponsorship scheme for agricultural processing and marketing units

The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry announced on Tuesday a grant scheme for the creation, modernization and digital upgrading of processing and/or marketing units of agricultural products, with the total amount allocated for the needs of the call amounting to €25 million. Applications will be accepted until June 24, 2022.

Specifically, according to the Ministry's announcement, the project aims to support existing and new small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as defined in Annex I of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), which are or will be active in the processing and/or marketing of agricultural products. Activities related to the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, wines and wine vinegar listed in Part II of Annex VII of Regulation (EU) 1308/2013 are not covered by the scheme.

It is clarified that firms in difficulty within the meaning of the Community guidelines on State aid for rescuing and restructuring firms in difficulty (2014/C 249/01) are not eligible for funding under this scheme. Please note that this provision of the Guide (paragraph 9.2) has been amended following clarification received from the European Commission.

Interested parties can obtain the final Guide to the project which sets out all the details, the Model Application Form and other required forms or documents from the website of the Department of Industry & Technology www.meci.gov.cy/sit.

It is added that the proposal submission period starts on 1 March 2022 at 08:00 a.m. and applications will be accepted via the e-Grant Plan System of the Ministry of Interior until 24 June 2022 at 11.59 p.m. or until the available budget is exhausted.

Applications and the related required supporting documents should only be submitted online at https:/fundingapps.mcit.gov.cy, using Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge.

It should also be noted that the Project will be implemented under Measure C3.1I6 of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RSP) of Cyprus and will be funded by the European Union (EU) Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, the central instrument of NextGenerationEU, the temporary instrument for financing the EU's recovery and exit from the pandemic crisis.
