The police in Limassol received 268 out-of-court complaints for various traffic violations, as part of the prevention of serious and fatal road traffic collisions
A total of 268 out-of-court complaints for various traffic offences were made by members of the Special Motorcycle Squad (E.O.O.M.O., of the Road Accident Prevention Units (R.A.P.O.D.) Headquarters and Avdimou, in the city and district of Limassol.
The traffic checks were carried out between the hours of 6 a.m.5.30pm today, in the context of preventing road traffic collisions, consolidating road awareness and increasing the sense of security of the citizen.
The majority of the complaints concerned offences which have been proven to be the main causes of serious and fatal road traffic collisions. Of these, 77 complaints stand out, which were carried out for exceeding the speed limit, 65 complaints for not using a seat belt, 21 complaints for driving with hands not free (use of a mobile phone).
In addition, there were another 17 complaints for not wearing a protective helmet, 28 drivers were reported for driving a motor vehicle without a licence and another 60 drivers were reported for various traffic offences.
Targeted traffic checks continue daily, around the clock, throughout the road network nationwide. The sole objective is to inculcate proper road awareness among all road users and to prevent fatal and serious traffic collisions.
