Sizopoulos opposes CBMs - Calls for the return of the sanctions policy
On Monday, EPP President Marinos Sizopoulos expressed his opposition to the policy of Confidence Building Measures.
"It is unthinkable for our side to insist on the policy of so-called 'confidence-building measures', which is a drift of the Cyprus issue from an international problem of invasion, continued occupation and ethnic cleansing, to an issue of bi-communal settlement and MEA, while the Turkish side also rejects this approach," Mr. Sizopoulos said in a statement, according to an EDEK statement.
Mr. Sizopoulos called on the President of the Republic to publicly and officially declare that he is withdrawing the proposal for an MOU, "in order to prevent the great risk of these MOUs becoming an acquis of the Turkish side and being used to further upgrade the occupied pseudo-state."
On the other hand, he called on the President to resume the policy of trying to impose sanctions against Turkey and to use all diplomatic means at the level of the European Union, including the veto.

"The Republic of Cyprus has never capitalized on anything when discussing MEAs and it has been proven by the facts that MEAs do not stop Turkey's provocative behavior but instead favor its continuation," he said.
