The Ukrainian crisis, the migration issue and the Cyprus problem were on the agenda of a meeting on Friday between EPP President Marinos Sizopoulos and Slovak Ambassador Ján Škoda.

The meeting took place on the occasion of the completion of the Ambassador's term of office in Cyprus.

"On behalf of the EPP, I would like to thank the Slovak Ambassador, on the occasion of his departure from Cyprus, for the excellent efforts he has made throughout this period in the effort to create a constructive atmosphere between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties in the context of the effort to find a democratic, functional and viable solution to the Cyprus problem," said Mr. Sizopoulos.

He said that they also exchanged some views on the crisis that has been created in Ukraine with the invasion of Russian troops and especially on how we can support the refugee flows that currently exist from Ukraine and how we can limit the flows of illegal economic migrants that the Republic of Cyprus is receiving.

In this context, what we have agreed is that we should continue with the person who will succeed him this sincere cooperation and build the best possible relations between the two EU member states which can play an important role in the developments as they are taking shape at the moment, he said.

The ambassador, according to a party statement, thanked the EPP for the excellent cooperation during his 10-year tenure on the island and for its struggles for the solution of the Cyprus problem. He also assured that Slovakia will continue to fight for peace and the solution of the Cyprus problem.
