The numbers of victims and new cases of coronavirus are increasing internationally, with South Korea and Vietnam recording asix-figure number of cases within 24 hours.
South Korea
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDA) announced on Monday that in the 24 hours to midnight on Sunday, 209,169 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed and 329 patients succumbed due to complications of COVID-19. The death toll of the new coronavirus pandemic in South Korea has reached 12,757 deaths out of a total of 9,582,815 infections, according to the KCDA. The mortality rate remained unchanged at 0.13%. The number of cases declined compared to the previous day, when 334,708 were confirmed, mainly due to fewer tests over the weekend. Authorities expect the current wave of the pandemic, attributed to the Omicron variant, to peak later this month.
