Families with babies and minor children, elderly and young people whose lives were in immediate danger, sought a safe haven after the first bombardment of Ukrainian territory by the Russian army.
An ominous day was dawning for Ukrainians on Thursday 24 February, who found it hard to believe that they would have to hide in their own country to save their lives, when just one day later their president, Volodymyr Zelensky, would announce that he was ready "for talks with Russia to make Ukraine a neutral territory".
