Several of the admissions go to hospitals for other reasons and are detected positive," says Dr. Hatzigianni 70% of patients at the Reference Hospital without vaccination history At 50% occupancy rate
Without vaccination history, 70% of patients hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as a Reference Hospital, are without vaccination history, Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of Larnaca - Famagusta Hospitals, told the Cyprus News Agency, adding that the occupancy rate of the hospital is 50%.
She added that "currently 35 patients are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, of which 6 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since they need closer monitoring."
According to her, "the occupancy rate of the hospital is 50%, the average age of the hospitalized people is 74 years, while the youngest patient is 48 years old and the oldest 92 both with no history of vaccination".
She noted that "70% of the patients hospitalized at the Reference Hospital are not vaccinated."
According to Hatzigianni, "20 patients with Covid-19 are currently hospitalized at the Larnaca General Hospital, 4 of whom are on PMR. The Eden Rehabilitation Centre is hosting 78 coronavirus positive patients, who will be released after ten days, according to the protocol, while 27 patients are being treated in the Post Covid ward and will remain until their recovery".
Regarding the vaccinations, Hatzigianni said that "every day around 200 adults go to the Vaccination Centres in the free province of Famagusta to receive the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dose of the vaccine. Another 30 or so children aged 5-11 years attend the Centres weekly for vaccination."
In response to a question, he said that "several of the admissions of patients to public hospitals, who go seeking medical attention for other causes, end up in a Covid-19 ward, because on admission they are detected positive for coronavirus".
"We need to protect older people and vulnerable groups from coronavirus, since these groups who have other health problems may become more severely ill if they are detected positive for Covid-19," he said.
