Mandatory use of masks indoors is a new headache for businesses - The General Secretary of PASIKA told the Cyprus Times that this is a serious setback

The view that the reintroduction of the mask from next Friday in all indoor areas -with a few exceptions - will cause serious problems for the normal operation of businesses, expressed to the Cyprus Times PASIKA General Secretary Phanos Leventis, when asked to comment on the decision of the Council of Ministers.

"We were hoping to have new measures and unfortunately with this decision we have a very serious setback. I think our disagreement will find the others in agreement as we think it will create problems for the staff."

At the same time, Mr.Leventis pointed out that in the last two years of the pandemic, businesses and especially the catering sector have experienced significant financial losses. "Entrepreneurs are holding on to survive having a thousand and two problems due to the crisis and the pandemic and at the moment the last thing they want is to be burdened with fines," he said.

Asked to comment on the issue of controls and the fines that will again apply in case of violation of the law, he stressed that PASIKA hopes that "reasonableness will prevail with the fines and that some people will not take advantage of the fact and abuse of power by exhausting their maximum severity on businessmen".

Finally, asked if a meeting with the competent authorities will be requested in order to put on the table what concerns the industry, he indicated that today they will attend a meeting with their members and then decide on the next steps.
