Downing Street communications director Jack Doyle resigned on Thursday night, hours after the resignation of Munira Mirza, head of the British Prime Minister's Office and close adviser to Boris Johnson for 14 years.

Media reports say that Mr. Doyle cited the weight of recent developments in his family life for the resignation, citing the revelations and political pressures surrounding partygate.

He has been implicated in the revelations as he allegedly awarded praise to staff members at one of the alleged parties in Downing Street amid a lockdown.

The Daily Mail's political affairs editor said, however, that Mr. Doyle says he always planned to leave the Prime Minister's office after two years of service and that his own resignation is not linked to that of Ms Mirza.

The 44-year-old councillor resigned because Boris Johnson did not apologise for the "improper" and unfounded accusation he made against Labour leader Sir Kir Starmer about his responsibility for failing to prosecute the paedophile BBC presenter Jimmy Savile when Sir Kir was head of the Attorney-General's Department.

The resignations come a day after three more Conservative MPs submitted letters of no confidence against the Prime Minister.
