Second autopsy on the body of the 33-year-old woman Pending scientific tests - "Right of the family" said the Health Minister - Michael Hadjipandela on the side of the family Protest today outside Larnaca Hospital Calls for the resignation of those responsible for the death of Filios, The family
A new post-mortem examination of the body of 33-year-old Filio Balafa-Lekka, who died a week ago at Larnaca Hospital, will be carried out today by the family's coroner, Andreas Marneridis, after the unfortunate young woman's husband complained of medical negligence.
Speaking to state radio about the actions of the Ministry of Health and yesterday's meeting with the relatives of the 33-year-old, Michael Hatazipandela said that from the first moment he was informed about this tragic event, he instructed the director general of the ministry to start an investigation so that the ministry would be informed about what has happened.
Referring to yesterday's meeting with the family, Hajipandela said he has been informed that the family's intention is to have a second autopsy today with a doctor they have decided on. "It is a right of the family that we cannot challenge," he added."
Also, according to Hatzipantela, a histopathologist, with whom the Ministry of Health collaborates, was present at the meeting and explained to the family how tests will be carried out, for the results to be given to the family.
He noted that "the family has been informed that the second autopsy will give us a short delay so that we know the reason why this girl died."
"I will be in close communication with the family and I told them that the Ministry of Health wants to know why this girl died, but at the same time I have mentioned to the family - because we are talking about a family that came from Greece to work in Cyprus with two small children - that if the state should help these children, it is a matter that we have to look into, although it is not a matter for the Ministry of Health. I will take this matter forward to help this family," the Health Minister stressed.
From there, the Ministry is awaiting the findings from the autopsy and the histopathological tests that will shed light on the investigation.
For its part, the police are continuing investigations into the case and are expected within the next few days to receive statements from doctors of the Larnaca Hospital, as well as the private doctor who saw her.
The facts
However, according to Filios' family, the woman had a history of thrombophilia and some days ago had been vaccinated.
Last Monday she visited the Larnaca General Hospital after bruising her arm and was given aspirin. Then, after she was not feeling well, she visited a private doctor and was told, according to her family, that she was probably suffering from coronavirus so she went for a test.
The next day the woman got worse and went to the hospital again where she was intubated and unfortunately a few hours later she died.
Protest outside Larnaca Hospital
A protest demonstration will take place today at 12 noon.30 noon, outside Larnaca Hospital, with the family calling for the resignation of those[/B] responsible[/B] for Filios' death.
