A Scottish theatre company has again set a Guinness World Record by staging a musical in less than 10 hours after receiving the script.

The Rubber Chicken Theatre in Dunblane previously held the Guinness World Record for fastest theatre production when it staged a show in less than 12 hours in 2019.

But the record was shattered just a few months later, when Spanish theatre company Grupo de teatro Albatros put on a show in 11 hours and 9 seconds.

Guinness World Record rules required the timer to start from the moment the cast opened the secret script, which was for the sci-fi musical Return to the Forbidden Planet.

"We had just 10 hours to set up the entire show, get the actors to memorize the roles and songs, learn the choreography, find costumes and organize lighting, sound and props," artistic director Pamela Mackey told the Daily Record.

Guinness World Records judge Jack Brockbank was on hand during the process and confirmed that the theater company beat the record by staging the musical in 9 hours, 59 minutes and 3 seconds after opening the script box.

"We're glad we got it back," Mackie said of the record. "Bigger, brighter, bolder and faster than ever before."
