A Russian Foreign Ministry official said that the European Union will face very large increases in energy prices

The European Union is facing rising energy prices following the sanctions imposed on Moscow over Ukraine, a Russian Foreign Ministry official said today, according to Interfax.

Nikolai Kobrinets said Russia is a reliable energy supplier, but is also ready for tough confrontation in the sector if necessary. He did not give details of what that confrontation could mean.

He said the situation on global energy markets would lead the EU to pay at least three times as much for oil, gas and electricity, APA reported.

"I think the European Union will not benefit from this we have more time-resistant supplies and stronger nerves," Kobrinetz told Interfax.
