Retaliation for RT in Germany Closes Deutsche Welle offices in Moscow
The Kremlin revokes the accreditations of Deutsche Welle employees in the country Earlier this week, the media regulator in Germany had banned Russian RT from broadcasting in the country
Russia quickly "responded" to the decision by the relevant German regulator to ban the Russian RT network from broadcasting in Germany by announcing that it was putting a "lock" on the Moscow office of German broadcaster Deutsche Welle and revoking the accreditation of its employees in the country.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also said in a statement that it would "terminate Deutsche Welle's satellite and other broadcasts" on Russian territory.
The Kremlin had earlier criticized the RT developments, calling them an "attack on freedom of expression and freedom of the press."
The German regulatory agency and the Media Licensing and Supervision Commission in Germany said earlier this week that RT Germany could not broadcast in Germany using a Serbian license.
The Russian government responded, saying it plans to initiate proceedings to recognize DW as a foreign media outlet performing "foreign agent" duties in the country.
