An alarm has been sounded in Washington, D.C., after reports of an active shooter at a nuclear base in the area.

According to information reported by Russia Today, a section of the Hanford nuclear facility in Washington state has been put on lockdown and employees have been told to be ready to "run and hide" amid reports of an active shooter at the site.

Workers at the 2750E building in the 200 East Area of the site have left the site, while all site personnel have been instructed to go indoors and the entire Hanford site has been placed on lockdown, the Department of Energy said Tuesday.

It is worth noting that so far, reports of gunfire have not been confirmed.

Authorities are responding to a report of a possible active shooter in the 200 East area, which is near the center of the Hanford Site. Employees in nearby buildings are currently in lockdown.
