On Saturday afternoon, a 24-year-old Pakistani man accused of attempted rape, illegal carrying and use of weapons, domestic physical harm and threats against a former permanent partner will plead guilty before the regular investigating magistrate in Rhodes.
The 24-year-old was arrested by police officers of the Archangelos Police Department on 23 February 2022 following a complaint filed against him by his 22-year-old domestic ex-partner.
The alleged victim started chatting with the accused via the internet in December 2020. He was staying in Sofades Karditsa and on September 12, 2021 he came to Rhodes by boat from Piraeus to live together. She hosted him for a week at her home in Kalithies, where she lives with her parents and subsequently found accommodation with a fellow resident in the same village.
Their relationship was initially normal, but in November of the same year he showed signs of jealousy for the first time without giving any reason. They had gone out for a walk and after they left a café, for no reason he started shouting at her, insulting her and hitting her. The woman then left him and since then they were together for some periods.
As she complained, until January 14, 2022 when they separated, he had hit her three more times.
On February 14, 2022 Valentine's Day, he gave her roses and on the same day he kept calling her.
Three days later they met but their relationship did not resume.
On February 22, 2022 in the afternoon he went to an estate in Kalithies where he works to have a barbecue with the owners and eat.
When they finished she asked him to take her home and while he was drunk, as he claims, they set off on the owner's motorbike. While they were driving along the dirt road and before they reached the Psinthos-Kalithia country road, he pulled over and began an erotic confession.
While he was telling her he loved her, as she described, he seemed angry at the same time.
He took out a pocket knife from his pocket and put it to her neck telling her he loved her and then, as the 22-year-old described, he hit her in the chest, threw her to the ground and tried to take off her clothes.
He then left her and started screaming and banging his head on the ground. The woman, she said, started running into the field and managed to hide behind a tree and call her father to get her from the spot.
But by the time her father reached the spot, the Pakistani man went after her and grabbed her by the neck and threatened to kill her. Her father arrived at the spot and carried her to their home, while a short time later the Pakistani man went to the house and shouted outside the house.
He denies the allegations against him and, when questioned, did not say anything about the substance of the allegations made against him by his former partner.
The lawyer Mr. Sevastianos Kourkoulos is present as his defence counsel.
