The C42, the car with which Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN will compete in this year's Formula 1 World Championship, has been revealed in a year that marks a new era for the institution.
This is the first car to be built in Hinwil given the restrictions on the budget available to the teams under the regulations in force in this year's championship. Designed by the team led by Technical Director, Mr Jan Monchaux, the C42 is a completely new car that exploits the potential offered by the new aerodynamic package and 18" diameter wheels with low profile tyres. The C42 is powered by the new Ferrari engine, a set designed for combat, given the opportunity afforded by the new regulations.
The colour scheme evokes memories of Alfa Romeo's rich racing history, as well as that of Sauber Motorsport, which is entering its 30th year of Formula 1 participation. Designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, the new colour schemes make the car instantly recognisable, with an ideal mix of the two primary colours, red and white. The brand's historic font recalls Alfa Romeo's start in motor racing in the 1920s, while the name of the brand's first C-SUV, the Tonale, and the legendary Quadrifoglio (four-leaf clover) are another link between history and the present and the future.
In the hands of the experienced, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, the first Formula 1 driver from China, the C42 is ready to impress on every level. Joining them as Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN's third driver will be Poland's Robert Kubica.
Jean Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo said, among other things, "This season promises to be the most competitive in recent years. New regulations, new drivers and a brand new car are the expression of the evolution of the sport and of our team. At Alfa Romeo we always try to make the most of all the opportunities we are given. At the same time, for Alfa Romeo, 2022 represents a year of "Transformation". With Tonale, the brand looks forward to the era of electrified mobility and connectivity, while at the same time remaining true to its DNA that it has kept unchanged since 1910. That's why we put the Tonale name on our car. We can't wait for the red lights to turn green and the Formula 1 championship to begin."
