The Tower of Freedom (Azadi), Tehran's most recognizable landmark, was lit up red for the Chinese New Year celebrated this year on February 1.
To the sound of the national anthems of China and Iran and the flags of the two countries flying atop the monument, the tower was "bathed" in red and successive messages were displayed, including "Happy Chinese New Year", "Iran's ancient civilization welcomes you" and "Celebrating the 50th anniversary of China-Iran diplomatic relations".
A video about the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games was also shown during the event. Referring to the impressive show, Chinese Ambassador to Iran, Chang Hua, said it "demonstrates the deep friendship and ties between the two peoples."
