The US President reiterated that the global consequences would be enormous if the Russian President invades Ukraine
US President Joe Biden said today that he would consider imposing sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin himself in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters accompanying him on his visit to a small shop in Washington, D.C., Biden said he had "no intention" of sending U.S. troops or NATO forces to Ukraine.
"We have no intention of deploying American or NATO forces to Ukraine," he said. But he added that he may move some of the 8,500 US troops on standby in the near future.
Biden noted that there has been no change in the attitude of Russian forces and reiterated that the global consequences would be enormous if the Russian president invades Ukraine.
When asked by a reporter if he would consider imposing sanctions on Putin personally, the US president replied "Yes," adding: "I can imagine it."
