Their determination to take targeted sanctions "against all those involved" in Russian actions in eastern Ukraine, stressed the Permanent Representatives of the Member States at the extraordinary COREPER meeting on Tuesday morning, according to a post by the French Presidency of the Council of the EU.

As stated in the Twitter post, it has been agreed that the actions to be taken will be carried out with a "rapid timetable", while the permanent representatives will meet again towards the end of the day.

"COREPER II meeting just concluded" with member states agreeing on "unity in the EU's position in response to Russian decisions" and "determination to impose targeted sanctions against those involved, in close coordination with our partners and allies," according to the post.

As added, there was "agreement on a fast timeline", with a "new COREPER II meeting scheduled at the end of the day".

Recall that at 16:00, local time, EU foreign ministers will hold an informal meeting in Paris (where they are for the Indo-Pacific Ministerial Conference) on the EU's response to Russia's actions.

According to a statement from Paris on Tuesday morning, EU High Representative Josep Borel is expected to propose to the foreign ministers the next steps regarding sanctions. However, as the meeting will be informal, the final approval will be left to a formal meeting in the framework of the EU Council.
