The 1st of this year marked the official operation of cameras on Cypriot roads in an effort by the police, as an attempt to reduce the number of serious road accidents.
The Cyprus Times was informed by a competent source that in 10 days alone since the beginning of the year, mobile cameras alone recorded 5,222 offences with corresponding fines being issued to drivers.
The fines relate to red light, speed limit and stop line violations. It is recalled that so far 4 fixed and 4 mobile[/B][/B]cameras are in operation.
Same information says that the officials are still processing various data, while drivers have already started paying the first fines.
Increase of cameras gradually...
The number of cameras according to officials is expected to increase from the end of January until the summer with 16 mobile and 20 fixed cameras, while in the second phase 66 more fixed cameras will be installed.
By the end of the year 2022, a total of 90 fixed cameras at 30 locations and 20 mobile ones are expected to be installed on tripods outside the vehicle, or inside a vehicle.
