Queen Elizabeth leaves Buckingham Palace Why she chose Windsor Castle to stay

The Windsor Castle seems to be the new permanent residence of Queen Elizabeth. The monarch has no intention of returning to Buckingham Palace, according to a report in the Daily Mail. In fact, the last night she spent there was in March 2020.

She will now live permanently at Windsor Castle and, according to the publication, will "work from home" as she will receive all official visits, such as officials, at her home in Berkshire.

It is also reported that royal advisers want to limit the Queen's travels, after she herself admitted that she feels weak now.

"As you can see, I can't move," Queen Elizabeth said during a recent conversation with two Defence Secretaries.

It is no coincidence that she chose Windsor Castle to isolate herself. After all, it is where she spent her lockdown with Prince Philip, shortly before his death in April last year.

There, sources close to the royal family say, the couple "rediscovered" happiness. "They reminisced about their years together and became close again," a source told DailyMail.

Royal writer, Hugo Vickers said: "Windsor is the place he loves. It's where her memories with Prince Philip live, it's where her ponies are and her family are close. It makes sense why she chose to live in Windsor."

Her decision may have been influenced by the fact that a renovation is currently taking place at Buckingham Palace, which will last until 2027. This means that Prince Charles and Camilla, who will take over the throne when Queen Elizabeth passes away, will now live in the Palace.
