A direct meeting of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zhelensky according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.


As stated by the Kremlin spokesman, the talks currently taking place in Antalya between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba in the presence of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, the possibility of direct talks between Putin and Zelensky will be discussed. "Kiev constantly calls for direct talks between Putin and Zelensky, now this issue is being discussed by the foreign ministers," Peskov said.

During his briefing, he also referred to the shocking bombing of the Mariupol hospital. Yesterday, three people, including a little girl, were killed and at least 17 people were wounded by Russian shelling of a maternity and children's hospital in the besieged city with Ukraine's leadership accusing Moscow of terrorizing the country's people while many foreign leaders were quick to strongly condemn the Russian attack.

Dmitry Peskov said a special investigation will be carried out into the bombing, stressing that explanations and information will be sought from the military. Earlier today, Dmitry Poliansky Russia's first deputy permanent representative to the UN said that Russia had warned on March 7 that the hospital had been turned into a military post from which the Ukrainians were firing.

Peskov also referred to the sanctions that have been applied against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, stressing that the "Russian economy is in shock from the sanctions."
