Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan that the "military operation" in Ukraine will stop only if the Ukrainians stop fighting and only if Moscow's demands are met, according to a Kremlin statement.

He stressed again that the "military operation" - as Moscow describes its invasion of Ukraine - is proceeding according to plan.

He added that he hopes Ukrainian negotiators will keep a more constructive approach and take reality into account.

Erdogan to Putin: Move to immediate ceasefire

He added that Moscow is ready for dialogue with Ukraine and foreign partners.

For his part, Erdogan, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency, called on the Russian president for an immediate ceasefire, opening humanitarian corridors and signing a peace agreement.
