They are preparing several agreements in the field of gas and economic cooperation
Russia and China are preparing several agreements in the field of gas and economic cooperation, which will be signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Beijing, where he will attend the Winter Olympics, Kremlin adviser Yuri Usakov said today, Wednesday, noting that the idea of building a new gas pipeline to China is being discussed.
Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, will have lunch together on Friday where they may sign more than 15 agreements in the gas sector, Russian presidential adviser Yuri Usakov told reporters.
In the gas sector many agreements are being prepared, which of them will be signed, at the moment I cannot say yet. But that the visit will mark a further step in the development of cooperation in the gas sector is obvious, Ushakov said.
Ushakov said that Russia is considering the possibility of building a new gas pipeline to China via Mongolia, a project that has been discussed for a long time, which will take many years to complete. The competition began today, Wednesday, at the Beijing Winter Olympics, as the shadow of the war in Ukraine and the imminent arrival of Putin, who will attend Friday's opening ceremony, cast a shadow over an event already transformed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Gas deliveries to China via the existing 4,000-kilometre-long Siberian Power pipeline, which carries gas from eastern Russia to China, began in 2019. However, it took nearly a decade to reach an agreement on the terms of supply.
